The Chicago Typewriter is a powerful submachine gun available only through an in-game event in Remnant: From the Ashes.
Remnant: From the Ashes from Gunfire Games became a breakout hit after its release. With a list of awesome weapons, amazing atmosphere, procedurally generated environments, and a great character builder, it’s not a surprise the game is doing as well as it is. The extensive list of weapons, one particular powerhouse outshines the others.
The Chicago Typewriter is a powerful, elusive submachine gun that takes mostly luck to obtain. Due to the procedurally generated nature of the game, a lot of events are subject to the game’s random whims. The Chicago Typewriter is only obtained through an in-game event. The event itself is the luck element here. Players can spend their whole game narrowly missing out or just not seeing it spawn.
How to Get the Chicago Typewriter
Luckily, (no pun intended), Reddit and GameWatcher exist to give players an idea of what to expect. The event takes place on Earth, somewhere near the church, according to Reddit. Players must rescue two survivors at a dungeon door as they’re getting attacked by root monsters. So far, it’s suspected that both survivors must live through the event, but players will get the key from only one of the survivors, named Lizzie, so definitely keep her alive.
After successfully defending the survivors, Lizzie will give the player a key. Claim it and unlock the door to get the Chicago Typewriter.
What exactly triggers the event isn’t known. Reddit and GameWatcher both address the tree monster in the game. GameWatcher suggests that defeating the tree monster is required to get the root monsters to spawn and harass poor, unsuspecting survivors. However, Reddit users report finding the event without defeating the evil tree.
Don’t despair if Lizzie dies in the event. It’s not your only chance to get the gun. Should Lizzie die, as was a question in the Reddit thread, reroll the whole campaign. It won’t guarantee Lizzie will respawn then, but there is a chance she and her friend will reappear.
As the Reddit thread shows, the gun’s stats are pretty decent and what you’d expect from a submachine gun. With moderate damage per bullet, large magazine, and a high rate of fire, it should make short work of casual encounters and even put a nice dent in bosses.
There’s no real way to ensure that players will find Lizzie and her companion. Players report finding it without interacting with the evil tree, after defeating the evil tree, and anywhere in between. Since dungeons are procedurally generated, actually encountering the two survivors is roughly a coin flip. The randomness element will likely frustrate some and depending on the difficulty, actually keeping two survivors alive will be an issue.
