The first announcement of DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield happened during the start of 2020 during a Pokémon Direct on Jan. 9. It’s the first primary Pokémon game to receive any form of DLC, and with it, you can experience new Galar regions with brand new adventures, including additional Pokémon. The first DLC of the set, the Isle of Armor, will be the first to release and kicks off the summer for Pokémon fans.

It will become available on June 17 for all players. You can choose to purchase it on the day it releases or preorder your copy from the Nintendo store. Buying the expansion pass purchases you both DLC packs. You do have to purchase the DLC for the appropriate game. For example, if you have Pokémon Sword, you need to buy the Pokémon Sword Expansion Pass. If you buy the expansion pass for Shield, and you have Sword, the two are not compatible. The expansion pass costs $30, and includes both Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra. Crown Tundra does not have a release date at this time but will come later in 2020.

The Isle of Armor will feature an array of first-generation Pokémon from the Kanto region with new Galarian forms. Not only are more common Pokémon receiving Galar forms, but the three legendary birds Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres, will receive an updated appearance when they arrive to the Sword and Shield collection.

There will be additional mechanics coming to the game, like Dynamax Soup. When a Pokémon drinks this meal, it will unlock the capacity for them to Gigantamax if they can already Dynamax, which means plenty of Pokémon are about to receive updated character models for their giant form.

Expect new, wild adventures in the Isle of Armor come June 17 in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
