To give you the quick and easy answer, no, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will not be on Xbox Game Pass, at least not at launch. This means if players intend to drop into the next installment of the shooter franchise, they are gonna need to pay up this year.

Before Microsoft purchases the company earlier this month, Activision Blizzard stated that games like Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo 4 would not be coming to Game Pass this year, with the soonest estimate being sometime next year if they make their way onto the streaming service at all. The reason, according to Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, is that the teams at Microsoft were not able to begin the technical work needed to get the games on the platform until the deal had closed, which happened on October 13. With the deal now done, they can work on getting the games onto Game Pass.

As for older titles and other Activision Blizzard games, that’s also up in the air at the moment, but we imagine we will see other games in the publisher’s back catalog appear on the service in the future, including older Call of Duty titles or even games like Heroes of the Storm. We also know that Phil Spencer has said they intend to revisit old IPs and other titles from the publisher’s huge selection, so even if Call of Duty doesn’t make its way onto Game Pass soon, the future is looking rather bright for the streaming service.
