Outriders, Square Enix’s upcoming foray into the looter shooter genre, will release on February 2, 2021, a delay from the previous release window of December 2020. Fans are disappointed, but on the other hand, we now know that Outriders will release on almost every gaming platform at the same time, and the game will also feature crossplay support.
The game will release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Google Stadia. Full crossplay across all platforms will be supported, although it is not confirmed yet whether it will be enabled right from the get-go or arrive on a later date. Moreover, players who purchase the game on current-gen consoles will be given the next-gen version for free.
What is Outriders?
Outriders is a Destiny-like looter shooter with a lot of flashy action, craft-able and grind-able equipment, explosive spell-like abilities, and a big alien planet to explore and kill things on. Unlike Destiny 2, Outriders is a third-person game, which is curiously where the genre seems to be headed as a whole. There will be no PvP game modes at launch, with the main focus being the solo and cooperative experience. The latter will be implemented as a drop-in option, letting up to three players take on the game’s challenges as a team.
