In WoW: Classic, players are returning to the earlier time of World of Warcraft. The team at Blizzard has turned back to the clock with World of Warcraft, giving players a time machine to return to when the game initially launched. Beyond players picking their ideal class to play, they’re going to have to choose a profession to specialize in for crafting. Here’s the breakdown of the different professions and what they do.

Professions in WoW: Classic

There are primary professions and secondary professions. Characters can only have two primary professions, and they can have as many secondary professions as they want. The primary professions are broken up into categories of gathering and production.

Primary Professions

These are the gathering professions in the game.

  • Herbalism: The character can locate specialized plants or find particular enemies carrying unique items to harvest.
  • Mining: The character can mine mineral and ore deposits they find in the world using a Mining Pick. It does require the mining pick to use.
  • Skinning: The character can use a hunting knife to skin animals or creatures they find in the world. It does require the hunting knife to use.

These are the production professions in the game.

  • Alchemy: Characters are going to create potions and elixirs they and other players can use to enhance their overall abilities.
  • Blacksmithing: With this profession, characters are going to craft and meld metal to create weapons, armor, along with weapon buffs.
  • Enchanting: The enchanting ability allows the character to tie magic to equipable items, increasing their overall quality. They can also create wands and oils later on.
  • Engineering: Those who choose this profession are going to craft metal-based gear and equipment, such as grenades. An engineer has the chance to decide to specialize in Gnomish or Goblin engineering, getting a whole new tree to craft.
  • Leatherworking: These skills allow characters to tan and modify animal hies to turn into leather armor, bags, buffs, and even armor kits.
  • Tailoring: These skills have a softer touch, creating lighter, thinner armor and bags.

These are the skills you’ll probably want to pair together when making your two choices.

  • Alchemy and Herbalism
  • Blacksmithing and Mining
  • Enchanting and Blacksmithing
  • Enchanting and Leatherworking
  • Enchanting and Tailoring
  • Engineering and Mining
  • Leatherworking and Skinning

Secondary Professions

These are the secondary all characters in the game can pick up without having to choose one over the other.

  • Cooking: Create several meals to provide players with temporary buffs to use in all forms of combat.
  • First Aid: Build bandages and anti-venom vials to help players heal in the middle of combat or to use to heal others.
  • Fishing: Find a river or a lake to throw a fishing pole in and start catching different species of fish. Players have a chance to discover treasure while they’re out fishing.

Players picking out professions should think about what they want to provide the community, along with what they’re going to need as they level up. Do you want to rely on other players to craft armor and weapons, or do you want to do it yourself? Think about your choice before you commit.
