In a recent tweet, CEO and founder Randy Pitchford discussed Borderlands 3 with a few fans and revealed that the game will see the return of four-player co-op. This will come without any other mode with the bigger player count.
Borderlands 3 has not been revealed yet, but Gearbox Software keeps talking about it on the Internet as it was. Interestingly, the game won’t be at E3 and has potentially been delayed until 2019-2020, according to publisher Take-Two Interactive.

“Unfortunately, the Borderlands engine only allows for four players and they have to be on the same team,” Pitchford told the analyst Michael Pachter answering to a joke of the latter about a possible 1-billion player battle royale coming to B3.

He added, indeed, that “I was joking with Pachter who claimed COD engine could only support 32 players multiplayer,” making fun of the analyst. So there might be something else under wraps we still don’t know about the upcoming Borderlands?

Whatever, it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit more to learn more about what the game actually is. We don’t expect particular surprises, as the co-op gameplay was what made the franchise so popular and inspirational for other FPS series.
