Destiny 2 servers are currently down, and Bungie are investigating error code Stork, which is currently afflicting all players.

Destiny 2 servers have been down for the last few hours, as Destiny is currently suffering from a service-wide interruption. This means that nobody can log on to Destiny 2, or the original Destiny, on any platform. When players attempt to log on, they are met with error code stork and receive a message telling them that Destiny 2 servers are currently offline. Bungie has advised that they are working on a fix for the issue in a tweet from the BungieHelp Twitter account.

In the tweet, Bungie advises that they are investigating the issues and thank players for their patience. While error codes are nothing new to Destiny, error code stork certainly seems to be unusual. A search of the Bungie site reveals no information about error code stork, so this would appear to be a new one that the community hasn’t run into yet.

This is certainly not the best time for something in the Destiny backend to go wrong, as Xur will be due to arrive in the game soon, and a flood of players who don’t know about the downtime are about to start trying to connect to the game. The good news is that Bungie is quite good at getting service interruptions like this dealt with, and I don’t expect the problem will run on for much longer.

The exact cause of the issue is unknown, and Bungie is unlikely to reveal what went wrong, even when they fix the problem. When the game comes back online, it is also best to prepare for a long wait in the queue, as the servers will be flooded by people trying to reconnect to the game.

At the moment, all we can do is advise patience, and to keep an eye on the BungieHelp Twitter account for further updates.
