How to make caviar in Stardew Valley

Caviar is an item you can make in Stardew Valley that you can use to increase your energy and health or sell it for a decent profit. The only way for you to collect it is to construct a fish pond from the Carpenter’s shop on your farm and then place it somewhere on your land.

When you put any fish into the fishing pond, eventually, they’re going to make roe, which becomes aged roe if you put it into a preserves jar. This item is different than straight caviar. However, it’s made using the same method. Of the many fish you can place inside your fish pond, you have to use a specific one to create caviar.

You need to catch a single sturgeon and add it to your fishing pond back at home. The only time you can catch a sturgeon is during the summer and winter months at the lake right near the base of the mountain, where you enter the mines.

After you have it, the fish needs a few days to develop roe, so you can go about your business and check up on the fish pond every day. But roe becomes much more common the more you upgrade it and add fish to the pond. There will be an exclamation point above the pond, and the sturgeon will request you to give them an item. Here are all of the items the sturgeon require to expand.

  • 1 Capacity: 1 Diamond
  • 3 Capacity: 1 Jelly, 2 Maple Syrup, or 1 Pickle
  • 5 Capacity: 3 Omni Geodes
  • 7 Capacity: 1 Nautilus Shell

After you provide the item, your chances of discovering roe increase, and you have a daily chance of it appearing. While you’re waiting, craft a preserves jar, and when you receive the sturgeon roe, place it inside the jar. It takes 6,000 minutes to process the roe, which equates to a day and a half. Once it’s finished processing, you’ll be able to acquire the caviar from the jar, and you can choose to eat it or sell it on the market for 500 gold pieces.
