How to Unlock and Use Mystic Gateways in God of War
The Mystic Gateways are God of War‘s version of a fast travel network. We’ve compiled a list of where to find Mystic Gateways, but initially many are locked. In fact, for most of the story you can only use them to travel back to Tyr’s Temple. If you’re here to find out how to use Mystic Gateways and how to unlock them, read on. Please note that the section about how to unlock the Mystic Gateways may contain small story spoilers.
How to Use Mystic Gateways
Once you enter a Mystic Gateway and choose your destination, Kratos and Atreus will enter the Realm between Realms. This is a strange location with a circular path that may seem kind of maddening at first. That is, until you realize that the Realm Between Realms acts as a fancy loading screen, providing a window of time for God of War to load the assets required at your destination. Once the loading has completed, a ghostly doorway will appear not too far in front of you. In the meantime, you’re free to run around and explore, but mostly use that time to listen to more stories from Mimir. There’s also a ledge that you can jump off of, but don’t do that until you read the next section of this guide.
How to Unlock Mystic Gateways
What good is a network of Mystic Gateways if 90% of them are locked down and not usable? Hold on now, all of the Mystic Gateways are usable from the beginning, but only in a one-way fashion back to Brok’s Shop at Tyr’s Temple. So if nothing else, they provide a quick way back home. However, with a little bit of patience, you will soon hit a quest in Kratos and Atreus’ main journey called Realm Between Realms. As part of this quest you will obtain an item called the Unity Stone, which will provide two-way access to all Mystic Gateways in all the realms. Provided you have discovered them, of course.
