There’s a notable reference in Borderlands 3 that fans of the Pokemon anime show are going to love. It’s a direct reference to Jesse, James, and Meowth, the Team Rocket trio who were consistently after Ash and attempting to capture his Pikachu. You’re going to find this easter egg in a particular flavor text of a weapon.

There’s no exact science to locating this reference, unfortunately. You have to get a little lucky. You’re going to loot this particular weapon off of a boss, from Moxxi’s slot machines, or you’re going to get it in a random, out-of-the-blue drop you never expected to find it. Regardless of how you find it, you’re searching for a particular Legendary grenade modification called, “Moxxi’s Bouncing Pair.” It’s a series of rubberized grenades that create a decent amount of bounce and explode on impact.

When you get the grenade mod, check out the distinct text in the weapon’s icon picture. In the red letters, you should see the words, “Prepare for trouble, and make it double.” That line is a direct reference to the quote Jesse and James share whenever they get shot out of the air, into the stars and disappear from the Pokemon Show with a sparkle in the sky.

There’s not much else to the reference other than the quote. Because you’re not going to loot it off a particular enemy or location, there’s no additional reference to the pair of Pokemon villains, beyond the quote. It’s a fun little nod to the series, nonetheless.
