The Fallout 76 release date is less than two months away, but unfortunately, we still don’t know the exact dates for the upcoming beta. Bethesda has disclosed a lot of information about the game, but as for when players can get their hands on it, we’re still in the dark. Nevertheless, we know a considerable amount about the world you’ll be exploring in Fallout 76 so let us delve into the Fallout 76 map.
How big is the Fallout 76 map?
Bethesda has confirmed that the Fallout 76 map is much bigger than Fallout 4’s. Four times the size, in fact. This means that the Fallout 76 map is approximately 16 square miles, since Fallout 4 was only four square miles. To compare it to another Bethesda game, Skyrim’s map is about 14 square miles.
It’s also been confirmed that the map will be split into six distinguishable areas, each with their own flora and fauna. Entire regions can be targeted with nukes and made uninhabitable due to radiation. It reminds us a lot of Megaton in Fallout 3. Thankfully, these nukes are end-game content, and they won’t be too prevalent.
Where is Fallout 76 set?
Fallout 76 takes place in West Virginia, in the north-east of the USA. Bethesda has used the area for inspiration and players will have the opportunity to fight against Mothman, one of West Virginia’s most famous urban legends. The Beast of Grafton is another; a hulking, headless lump that looks like it’ll take a considerable amount of bullets. Expect famous West Virginia landmarks too like the Capitol Building, New River Gorge, Woodburn Hall and more.
When does Fallout 76 take place?
If you’re familiar with the Fallout universe, you’ll know the bombs went off in 2077. Fallout 76 takes place in 2102, 25 years after the USA got turned to rubble. Fallout 76 is a prequel to all other Fallout games because your player is one of the first vault dwellers to leave and experience the new world they live in. No pressure then.
