Fortifications are new in Battlefield V and this guide will teach you how to use the Toolbox to build Fortifications to help defenders.
DICE have introduced a few new mechanics to Battlefield V‘s online game modes, and one of them is the ability to build fortifications. Using a new toolbox ability that is available to all classes, soldiers can construct sandbag walls, barbwire fences, and other barricades to keep the enemy away from their objective.
What Are Fortifications?
Fortifications are a new mechanic that allows Battlefield V soldiers to construct barriers around objectives during a variety of online game modes. The ability to build fortifications is not restricted to any particular class, but the locations and types of fortifications are predetermined by the map designers. So while fortifications don’t allow for the freedom of fortifying and customizing objective areas, they are still handy and easy to build.
How to Use the Toolbox
By default, the Toolbox Toggle is bound to the letter T for mouse and keyboard gamers and the Down arrow on the D-pad for game controller users. If you’re in an area that you’d like to try to fortify, bring up the Toolbox and look for the faint outlines of fortifications. You’ll see their type and location, and all you have to do is approach the site and use the action button to start building. You’ll see your character start swinging their hammer or using a wrench and after a few short seconds, the fortification will appear.
If you see a teammate building fortifications, you can bring up your Toolbox and assist in the construction. This way it won’t take long to fortify an objective, something that you will be rewarded for with points as well.
While Fortifications in Battlefield V aren’t as customizable or flexible as in other games that offer crafting options, they can provide an extra layer of protection from the enemy and sometimes that’s all it takes to gain the upper hand in a tightly contested match.
