Valve’s own version of Auto Chess, Dota Underlords, will be coming to both iOS and Android for the open beta.
Auto Chess is the new hotness in gaming. Dota Underlords is Valve’s take on the genre that began with the Dota Auto Chess mod. While the game is currently available on PC to anyone with a Dota 2 Battle Pass, the open beta will open the doors to the game very wide, as people will be able to play it on Steam for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and it will also be coming to iOS and Android.
That’s not all the good news either, as the beta is planned to have both cross play and shared progression across all devices. As such, you can play at your desk, then continue the grind as you wait for a bus, or chill out in the park.
It seems Valve are taking this game very seriously after what could be politely called the failure of Artifact to set the world on fire. Personally, I didn’t have a huge amount of time to sink into the Dota Auto Chess mod, but I really would like to give Dota Underlords and honest shot when I can get access to it. Riot, Valve’s competition in the mobile space, have also recently announced plans to move into the Auto Chess space with Teamfight Tactics, their version will be available through the League client, and if the speed that Valve has moved at for Dota Underlords is any indication, we could be seeing that sooner than we expect.
Valve has said that the current Battle Pass only beta is effectively stress testing, and they hope the open beta will kick off in “about a week.” We will keep you updated on any breaking news. It looks like Auto Chess might just be the new Battle Royale genre, and you know for a fact that if the money starts to flow, other publishers and developers will look to translate their existing IPs into their own versions.
