The monthly player number count trumps Fortnite, which is one of the biggest game in the world at the moment. Epic Games announced that Fortnite had just over 78 million players, 12 million less then what Minecraft is getting, back in August.
Even after constant years of updates, changes, and add-ons, Minecraft is still going strong.
Microsoft has announced that the game currently has over 90 million monthly active users (91 million to be exact) and has gone on to be the second best-selling video game of all-time, selling 154 million copies worldwide. The biggest selling video game in the world is still Tetris, which has sold an estimated 170 million units since its release in 1984.
“That’s why our updates are free. We don’t want to ask [players] to move from Minecraft 1 to Minecraft 2,” Helen Chiang, Minecraft boss, told Gamesindustry.biz. “We want them to just enjoy Minecraft.“

The news follows the reveal of Minecraft: Dungeons, a brand-new game based in the Minecraft world has just been revealed at Minecon Earth 2018. The game is being developed by a small team at Mojang and is being based around classic dungeon crawler games like Diablo.
