According to a report from Kotaku, Blizzard is working on a Pokémon Go-like World of Warcraft game for smartphones and tablets.
The report claims that the studio is in love with mobile games and this is the main reason why the devs want to work on such projects, like Diablo Immortal.
On top of that, the developers at the team really want to work on smaller projects, like Hearthstone, and mobile gaming allows for that.
Activision as an investor is happy about the trend, of course, because mobile games are really monetizable and have a huge appeal on the Asiatic market.
“As one developer explained, the iconic orc statue in the center of Blizzard’s campus is a Pokémon Gym, and staff wage war over who gets to control the landmark on a daily basis,” tells the website.
“The game is also in production because lead designer Cory Stockton (formerly of World of Warcraft) is a huge fan of Pokémon.”
“People who have played the Warcraft mobile game say it’s also got a lot more to it than Pokémon Go, including single-player mechanics”, the report adds.
It remains to be seen whether the Blizzard community might be interested in such things or not, but it looks good at least to note that the studio isn’t being forced to work on these projects and really wants to focus on them because of its people’s passion.
We’ll see if the project sees the light of the day sooner or later.
