Gearbox's co-op shooter is going bye-bye. Although Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 3 continues to thrive with its first campaign DLC arriving next month, its previous project, Battleborn, is on its way out. 2K Games posted an update about the co-op-supported action/adventure game, explaining it has begun taking the steps to “sunset” the title before it completely shuts down in January 2021. The company has already removed the game from digital storefronts, but went on to explain what players can expect. “At the moment, you won’t see any effect if you own a copy of the game,” 2K said. However, “after Feb. 24, 2020, you will no longer be able to purchase virtual currency (‘Platinum’) for use in the game.” It also noted that game servers will remain active for Battleborn until January 2021. Following that, “once servers are deactivated, Battleborn will no longer be playable.” That includes any kind of single-player components. “Battleborn won’t be playable in any way.” Though not unexpected, it’s a shame to see any game as young as Battleborn, which released in March 2016, shutter. The shooter had a lot of ambition, but, unfortunately, it didn’t stand a chance against Blizzard's Overwatch, which released the same month. Battleborn players still have a bit of time to get together with their battle parties and spend that hard-earned Platinum. Once this time next year rolls around, however, Battleborn's star will finally fade.
