In this God of War Walkthrough – The Magic Chisel, Kratos has to locate the Magic Chisel by solving the Dead Giant Hammer puzzle to reach it after Ice Ancient, Magni & Modi Boss fight.
In Chapter 6 A New Destination, Kratos takes Mimir’s head to the Witch Freya, who revives it. After talking to the World Serpent Mimir reveals two things required to enter into the Lands of the Giants. First is learn the travel rune that will open up the realm to Jotunheim and second to carve the rune into a special gateway. To start Kratos has to locate the magical chisel.
The Magic Chisel Walkthrough
Follow Mimir’s instructions to the chisel
Once the bridge is aligned, the first thing to do is find the magic chisel. Head to the door and go from right there is a lift, rotate the wheel and go down. Ahead there will be a few nightmares, kill them and head towards the statue of oarsmen. There will be a boat, pass below the paddles, and you will be in The Mason’s Channel. You will reach a closed gate, on the right, there is a wheel, rotate that to open the gate. But first, you have to fight with an Ogre. Get into the boat once again and pass through the new path you opened up. You will reach an icy area. Leave the boat, and you will be in Northern Dock.
Investigate the Dead Giant
Attack the red crystals, there will be few werewolves, kill them first. Next, go near the huge ring and rotate it on the left side. Then shoot on it and it will open up the path. Go down and climb up from the left side. Ahead you will see a chain, climb further up and you will see the face of a dead giant.
Retrieve the piece of the Chisel
There will be enemies in the region. Clear them up before locating the chisel. There will be an Ice Ancient, an ice bot type boss who will throw up explosives.
Defeat Ice Ancient
The place where it spawns there will be a broken ship debris around. Also, there will be werewolf’s, so first kill them. Next, the Ice Ancient will release a beam of attack from his chest, and explosives. You can use the shield to throw the explosive return back to the bot. Attack when his chest is open and take cover behind the debris. It has the pretty good amount of health. With full rage meter, you can destroy him pretty quick. After defeating the Ice Ancient, there will be few smaller enemies around. After killing them all go near the Head of Thamur and kill a few nightmares.
Find a way to break the ice
Few more enemies will spawn over the ice. These ones are carrying a hammer and can shoot fireballs at you. After a while, two Ogre boss will also join the fight. So this is going to be a big fight. Meet Sindri once you are done with the fight, he will fix your axe.
Find a way to the hammer
On the right side where Sindri is the standing look on right on the beard, there is a ring with a red crystal on it. Further, follow the beard and ahead you will find more rights with the red crystals. Rotate them to the right direction and it will break, opening a passage for you. Go right, jump to the other side, go towards the torch. Then turn left and keep jumping ahead. On your right you will see a door where you will have to fight with few warriors, they have the shield on their back which will block the arrow and other attacks. They are pretty strong, the best way to take them down is using full rag and attacking on the front.
Look for a huge boulder on your right below a broken gate, pull it and place it on the broken sword. You can rotate the sword, climb up. Jump down to right and in the chest, you will get a Heavy Runic Attack – Blessings of the Frost. Return down and go behind the boulder you just moved. and walk left. On your right, you will find a platform to climb, jump ahead and keep moving to the right side. You will reach below the hammer.
There is a red crystal hanging, push it first towards the backside and command Atreus to shoot the arrow, it will break the lower part of the hammer, but it will still stick.
Make your way up the hammer
Go towards the torch ahead and on your left, there is a red crystal. Jump on it and climb up towards the hammer. Jump right when you reach the end and then go right. Keep moving up towards the red crystal, there is a hole. Open up the blocked passage and go further up and once again you will see the hole. Target the red crystal to open up the path and go finally on top.
Find the way to the hammer’s head
Next, look on your left side, there is a strap. Release it and next, you have to reach all the way to Hammer’s head. Open the door ahead and on your right look for a wooden door. Break it so that the boy can pass through it. There is a sand bowl ahead, with four symbols. You have to arrange them in Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn format starting from the left one first. You can throw the axe to rotate the symbols. The platform will be restored, and it will lift it up. Some enemies will spawn you have to kill them so that the boy can continue with the sand bowl magic. You will see a gold bar on the top, there will be a lot of Draugr’s spawning this time and you have to defend it. There will be the second wave also. The sand bowl will be broke, and you will have to jump ahead to reach the top.
Push the Hammer
Once on the top, you will have to push the hammer. Climb on the small broken wall and go towards the right end. Push the hammer. Walk below the narrow passage.
Make your way to the Chisel
Ahead you will see the chisel, go right and jump on square shape symbol on the column. You will have to keep moving on the right and jump on the wooden platform. Climb up once again on the top and keep moving up. Jump to the left and follow the boy. Open up the door and you will be in Dining Hall. Look on the top for a red crystal on top on a chandelier. Shoot it with an arrow and it will be stuck on left, then shoot once again and it will stick on the front. Shoot it again and the crystal will fall from it. Take the crystal, and on your left, you will see three huge ice blocks with shadows in them. The first one on the left has some wulvers, the second has Stone beating King boss and the last one on the right has some Ogre.
So if you want to avoid the big enemies use the crystal on the first in extreme left. If you want to play then killing the Stonebeating King will give you Boar Stampede Runic Summon that will call a stampede of spectral boars. Climb from the left end, and follow the marker on the compass. You will once again meet Sindri on your right. Move straight towards the wooden platform and jump on your left on the edges of the mountain. You will reach the chisel points. The next to do is to get the piece of the chisel. Magni and Modi son’s of Thor will attack you.
Defeat Magni & Modi Boss
Magni has a huge sword and Modi carries a spear and shield. Both heal bar will be visible below. Once the fight begins, you can use the axe to attack one and use the shield and fist to attack other. Magni’s charged attack is pretty tough, attack with full rage if you spot one of the brothers is engaged with the boy. Once you attack one of them he will be slowed down for a while, then you have a chance to take down the other one.
So you will have to use this window, specially Magni will take time to stand back again after your constant attacks. Then target the other one. Also look for health stone around which will give you a bit of health, the bow’s arrow will stun them. In one of the attacks, you will be surrounded by a cloud of lightning, use L1 to block and R to rotate, follow the red arrow that will give you the location of incoming attacks. After some time the cloud will fade away, once again you will be in the fight.
Keep using different combo attacks but also maintain a distance so that you won’t lose much of your health. Magni is the tough one. He will also throw lightning attacks on you. You have to defend Atreus also along with attacking the brothers. The good thing is Magni will be slowed after the second phase. Once again you will be surrounded by the cloud of lightning and you have to defend yourself. After the clouds go there will be the third and final phase, of the fight. Use the axe on Magni and then head towards Modi. In this way, you can damage both of them. Wait for Magni to release his attacks and then attack him.
Once the fight is over, there will be a short cutscene, where Kratos will kill Magni and Modi will escape. Kratos takes the part of Chisel and this is where the chapter is over.
